Famous Elephant Round-up in Surin, Thailand
The majestic Thai elephant has
long been a central element in Thai culture and has held a respected
place in Thai history.
A symbol of power and grace, the
elephant was revered by the ancient kings.
The Surin
Elephant Festival/Round-up is held every year, usually on the third
weekend in November,
although the elephants may start
converging on the town as early as September. The first round-up was
held in 1960
